Maker: Tamiya Kit #: 29 Availability: In Hobby Shops Price: $10 |
Tamiya 1/35 Kettenkrad |
First Impression: Opening the kit reveals only a couple of sprues and a strip of instructions. Looks like a nice simple and relaxing build. A bit of a change from the more complex tanks you may have been building. Yup, sure does. And thats the last time those thoughts came to mind. The Build: The sprues show themselves to be pretty clean of any flash and pin marks, not supriseing seeing how it is a Tamiya kit. A few of the imediate let downs are the the front tire is molded on to the front forks and the tracks are molded together with the center row of road wheels. Already see a bit of a challenge in painting these pieces. The pieces that cover the rear axle do not fit and require alot of trimming. The engine grills are soild and to look right could be cut out and replaced with a mesh. All though they can be painted up rather nice also, but replaceing with mesh will allow the engine that is included to be seen. The levers in the cockpit also do not fit right and need some work. Getting the tracks and the road wheels to assemble correctly and look right takes a bit if work and alot of glue. Extras: The kit comes with a few figures. Final Words: I would probally go with another kit if you want to build this particular vehicle. It is an interesting subject and I would have probally enjoyed the build had there not been the problems that there were. Definatly not a kit for beginners.
